Claire Williams and Sunjoo Lee invite participants into their collaborative research on how matter and meaning entangle, and how this is expressed through the use of technology. Claire is interested in crafting circuitry and raw components as a way to sense and interpret energies- telluric, electrical, electromagnetic and occult currents – and interpreting them inspired by various aeromancy and geomancy practices (making predictions on basis of athmospheric and geological feaures).
Sunjoo explores in her work how measured microbial electricity can tell us more than simple quantification of voltage. The complexity of our world, seen through the relationships between chemistry, electricity, machines and the biosphere, produces patterns and encounters that take us beyond numbers, and work with a non linear experimental science approach. In this workshop participants will be guided by the artists into their collaborative research, inviting collective hands-on experiments and demonstrations while open to active dialogue and exchange contributing to ongoing artistic shared research.

about the artists
Sunjoo Lee, based in the Netherlands and South Korea, is an interdisciplinary artist working in crossovers of art, technology, and ecology. Her fascination is in diverging the use of electronics and digital tools beyond human interest. Her works explore topics such as more-than-human philosophy, emergence, biomimicry, future forms of symbiosis, and permacomputing. Sunjoo often collaborates with biologists, ecologists, and engineers to develop artistic research and create multimedia installations that promote hybridity and partnership between the biosphere and the technosphere. www.sunjoolee.com
The artworks of Claire Williams (Belgium) take the form of woven antennas, glass sculptures filled with plasma or devices that sense the invisible. Data of radiotelescopes, radio scanners and DIY antennas materialise themselves in knitted stitches, sound vibrations or through luminous plasma using real time energies. She sculpts her electronic components to make visible the electromagnetic movements from the cosmos, through our magnetosphere, to radio waves that cross our terrestrial environment or the ones emanating from our bodies and psychic activity. She co-created « The Æthers » a space which collects and reactivate practices of the invisibles found in the archives of experimental and occult sciences of the 19th and 20th century.
