Niels Gräber & Isaac van den Aker

As part of the Amsterdam Dance Festival

2 performances from 11.15- 11.45 and 12.15 – 12.45, with opportunity to see the exhibition and talk to the performers about their work

Mudcell Composition IV is a sound performance in collaboration with the microbial life of “Electric Garden”. Inspired by the longterm research project by Sunjoo Lee, Niels Gräber and Isaac van den Aker have developed a system to co-create sound with electrogenic bacteria, normally found in wetland mud. The organisms fluctuating voltages actively shaping the composition, influencing rhythms and frequencies.

Niels Gräber is a Dutch artist and tinkerer interested in making non-human experiences tangible. He does so through obsessive research and hands-on use of technology, building interactive objects, custom electronics, software tools, and instruments. His self-build systems are presented both as installations and instruments for live performance.

Isaac van den Aker works across sound, video, code, and installation. Synthesising these components into systems where technology, perception and material interact in unstable ways. By misusing tools and through removing intended function, he allows for poetic and kinetic qualities to emerge. Working with found materials and media, he searches for meaning within the mundane. http://isaaaaaac.com/
