The Bees Tell

Telling the Bees is a project by artist Stef Veldhuis in which an archival space inside Zone2Source is connected directly to a bee colony in the Amstelpark. Together with a group of beekeepers, the artist cares for the bees, which in turn dictate the climate conditions within the archive. On July 26,  Stef Veldhuis invites the public to join one of these moments of care, where the colony will be visited collectively. Afterward, the artist will engage in a conversation with Maia Kenney about the project, biological and technological information networks and relations between art and more than human agencies.

About Stef Veldhuis: 

Stef Veldhuis is an artist working at the intersection of art, science, and ecology, exploring forms of reciprocal interference between human and more-than-human intelligences and phenomena. In his practice, Veldhuis creates projects that allow the contingent behaviors of biological actors to enliven the work throughout its exhibition.

About Maia Kenny:

“In 2020, Maia Kenny was the assistant curator of Tears of Eros, the first Dutch exhibition to center surrealist women and gender non-conforming artists. She has curated an exhibition on rave culture in the shooting range at Het HEM, worked with KABK students at Nest in LAAK, and contributed to a monographic exhibition on the Dutch surrealist and revolutionary Melle at Museum van Bommel van Dam. From 2023–2024 she was curator and editor of Het HEM’s experimental artistic digital platform The Couch (look it up!). She has taught queer feminist theory at Design Academy Eindhoven since 2021, and contributes regularly to Metropolis M and other arts publications.”
