What would a creative design process and product look like, co-designed with an animal or plant, a living material, or other? This workshop, led by artist and designer Ivan Henriques, is a hands-on experience that invites participants to question traditional approaches to design, fostering innovative practices that learn us to harmonise with the living world.
This dynamic 5-hour experience suitable for all, is structured into three engaging parts: research, development and presentation. During the workshop you will embark on a creative journey, either individually or in groups, to conceptualise and develop ideas on reimagining our interactions with nature. It encourages you to explore the possibilities of designing with living organisms and systems in a way that promotes both environmental sustainability and human well-being. A hands-on experience, it invites you to challenge traditional approaches to design, fostering innovative thinking about how we can harmonise with the natural world.
The workshop consists of:
– A presentation by the artist focusing on the design of his work with living organisms, diving deep into hybridism in art and design (1 hour)
– A walk around the exhibition building to find the participant’s non-human partner. A research about the characteristics of this organism will take place using biology books (provided by the artist) and internet (1.5 hour)
– Participants will find ways to design their piece in collaboration with the selected organism (1.5 hour)
– Final presentation (1 hour)
