Zone2Source is part of a consortium, together with the Vrije Universiteit, Rietveld Academy, de Waag Society and V2, that received the NWO ISA Smart Cultures grant 2019. This two year grant has the aim of making connections between innovative artistic and cultural practices, and scientific and societal issues. We received the grant for our collaborative project ‘Smart Hybrid Forms’ around the question whether an AI can be a plant.
Špela Petrič, with whom we presented a solo exhibition in 2017, is one of two artists who will be employed as artistic researcher to work together with scientists in the Hybrid Forms Lab at the VU. Alice Smits, director of Zone2Source, is engaged as researcher at Rietveld Academy to study these new art-science methodologies as well as philosophical implications of plant representations.
Zone2Source will present the research in our Machine Wilderness artists residenties next year in Artis as well as host a final exhibition late 2021 in het Glazen Huis, Amstelpark.
