Magnetoceptia presentation extra costume “Aerial Mast” and interactive session

The costume “Admiraal van Delfshaven the 1st” is added to the exhibition and presented in the Glass House. It is the most recent work in the series of Magnetoceptia portable antennas, developed in April 2016 in the Netherlands. The piece was created in and with material from the port of Rotterdam and is based on maritime techniques.
“Admiraal van Delfshaven the 1st” is a portable antenna receiver that picks up invisible phenomena from the environment and makes it audible through electronic sound.
The construction, inspired by a ship’s mast, is entirely made up of material found in the port of Rotterdam.
The (folding) wooden beams act as a platform for a number of receivers that are tuned in different ways to convert electromagnetic fields and wind energy into sound. The signals picked up range from maritime and aviation communication to urban and natural signals. Because the wearer controls specific mechanisms of the costume, the signals are modulated and a unique composition is created.
“Admiraal van Delfshaven the 1st” is part of a series of costumes designed in the Netherlands for Magnetoceptia, a joint project of Patrizia Ruthensteiner and Dewi de Vree.
On this day the artists are present in the exhibition to explain their work. In this interactive session, the audience can try out the costumes and experience the electromagnetic fields that are present in the Glass House and the surroundings.
