Finissage Here and Elsewhere with Irene Kopelman and Marjorie Chan
Irene Kopelman talks to her collaborator in the United States, Professor Marjorie Chan, of the Department of Geology & Geophysics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Together they talk about Irene’s collaboration with scientists. For more than a decade, artist Irene Kopelman has worked closely with scientists during fieldwork and in labs to observe methods used to collect and process material. Inspired by this, she creates her own drawing methods, bridging the gap between scientific systems and her own art practice.
For Here and Elsewhere she collaborated with Professor Chan during her fieldwork in Escalante, Utah for research on the Moqui marbles. In a conversation between artist and scientist, they explore shared and different methods of looking at geological processes and the way landscapes are shaped.
