10 year anniversary Zone2Source (and de Onkruidenier too!)
Zone2Source celebrates its 10-year anniversary (and de Onkruidenier too!)
Zone2Source opened its doors in 3 pavilions of Amstelpark on 13 May 2013. On Saturday 13 May, we will celebrate our 10th anniversary with the public opening of the SchaduwTuin (Shadow Garden), a new location in the park that Zone2Source created in collaboration with artist collective the Onkruidenier. This Shadow Garden has been developed as an artist’s garden and test environment for a new relationship between humans and their future living environment. In the coming years, de Onkruidenier will develop the Shadow Garden as a place for future gardening, a collective research into current issues in which drought and heat and the shifting climate zone call for a new arrangement. This walled Belgian Monastery Garden is a place where we can actually get our hands dirty in the earth and literally immerse ourselves in new practices and experiences of nature.
The Onkruidenier was created at the invitation of Zone2Source during that all first opening in 2013. Zone2Source is thus celebrating our 10th anniversary together with the Onkruidenier!
The Shadow Garden will be an artist’s garden housing stories that make entanglements of nature and people visible and tangible. In the past year, the Onkruidenier got to know the garden, its history and the associated monastic garden tradition to better understand the place and history. Now we can translate the layered meaning of the garden to the here and now and the climate challenges of our time. How do we bring the future to the now?
We will start at the Glass House in Farah Rahman’s exhibition Plantas Harmonias: connecting continents through medicinal and ritual plants, where she will give a demonstration of her work on the cultural and historical relations of plants. We will end in the Belgian Monastery Garden where we will collectively open Shadow Garden with snacks and drinks picked from the park together with de Onkruidenier.
In honour of our 10th anniversary, we will also launch our brand new website on 13 May, designed by Karoline Swiezynsk!
