Rooted Hauntology Lab – Ingrid Vranken

Ingrid Vranken presents her graduation project at DAS Theater – Academy on Theatre and Dance in het Glazen Huis on Sunday 2th of June 2019, from 8:00 until 22:00. In preparation she will start working in het Glazen Huis from mid-May onwards.

Rooted Hauntology Lab / Séance #1 Rooted Hauntology Lab invites plants, artists, thinkers and audiences to ‘be-with’ each other, to contemplate our planetary co-existence. Rooted Hauntology Lab commits to ‘thinking-with’ the trouble’, acknowledging that human knowledge alone is not enough. Our photosynthetic colleagues include decorative exotic plants, carnivorous plants and common kitchen herbs. Our practices attempt to go beyond gardening or exploiting aesthetic objectification, and question our politics of relation, both towards the non-human and human others.

Rooted Hauntology Lab works inside the space of spectrality. We investigate how the (urban) Western human is haunted, and the role which plants play in that. By thinking and working together, we attempt to make the invisible visible.

Vinny Jones, Sepideh Ardelani, Špela Petrič and Bryana Fritz were the first human artists-in-residence of Rooted Hauntology Lab. In Séance #1 we show their processes and temporary results to invited and casual audiences. Through playful interactions, the members of the audience become co-creators of the séance in an attempt to generate a more relational way of being in the world.

Ingrid Vranken completed Theatre Studies at the University of Antwerp and Freie Universität Berlin. She has worked as a dramaturg, producer and curator for multiple artists and arts organizations in Flanders. Ingrid is a member of FoAM, a transdisciplinary laboratory for speculative cultures. Her research focusses on new collaborative, curatorial and dramaturgical models and a wider ecological and post-capitalist transition that include other-than-humans.
