Art and Activism in Metropolis M

Alice Smits contributed an article titled “Art and Activism in Four Questions” to Metropolis M. The four questions Smits discusses are “How can we staff our (art) institutes in a different way,” “What is the point of reflecting on social issues if the institute hardly reflects on its own performance,” “How can the artist really show solidarity with social movements instead of just thematizing something and pursuing one’s own career,” and “Artists are locked up in jail after a performance campaign at the Van Gogh Museum and what does the art world do?” Smits finds her way to these questions through the analysis of some  recent art exhibitions and manifestations.
