For over a decade artist Irene Kopelman has joined scientists at their work in the field and in laboratories, observing their methods used for collecting and processing material. Inspired she created her own methods for drawing, bridging their scientific systems with her own art practice.
As part of her exhibition Here and Elsewhere at Zone2Source, Irene Kopelman will share her methods that she has applied in mapping and drawing a geological site, as she did for the work on display. The aim is to encourage a landscape not as a ‘form’, but rather as the results of complex geological processes that eventually resultated in what we see now. Based on the marbles that are part of her installation, through drawing exercises participants will imagine how the landscape was created and how art can be a form of thinking about geological processes and how landscapes form.
