Midsummer Nights Dream Solstice Performances
Division4Habitats will host The Third Annual Midsummer Night’s Dream Solstice Performance Event on the Summer Solstice, June 21 from 2 – 7 PM. A series of outdoor performances will be presented in the environs surrounding our pavillions.
2 – 3 pm Baptism of A Lily (Flower Arrangements)
by Krijn Christiaansen and Cathelijne Montens in the context of their project Sensing Nature (1972-2022), a research into the history of the Amstelpark presented in the Orangerie. Dorien van den Berg will make an arrangement with lillies under the same dome where in 1972 the Lillie ‘Princess Gracia’ was baptized by the Princess of Monaco. Wijnand van der Kooij, director of De Jong Lelies, will talk about the development of these Lillie species.
Information on the precise location can be found at the Orangerie. Afterwards the arrangements will become part of the Midsummer Night’s Dream performance events during a ceremonial mass culminating in a water ceremony near the pond.
2 30 – 2.50 pm The Elimination of a Picture and Its Subject
Tapping into the secret voices of the tree and the images of painter Richard Dadd, lifelong acolyte of the revels of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Alfredo Genovesi and Lee Ellickson will turn to electricity and resonance. Starting point Orangerie
starting 3 pm, 4 15 and 6 pm Echo: Labyrinth
A walk and concert in the Walled Court by The Genetic Choir. Met gastmuzikant Mark Alban Lotz. The choir works through structured improvisations and will explore the mysterious nature of echos in space and time. Starting point Orangerie gardens.
5 30 -40 pm The Peter Hurkos Chair of the Sitting Bull School for Inadventently Received Knowledge performs A Third Apposite Concentration of the key Motions of a Midsummer Night’s Dream Spectacle—Reabridged and Rediffused in the Latticed Hut behind the Orangerie. An interpretive agent will provide a brief glimpse of the essential conflicts of Shakespeare’s play as enacted by the plants and flowers without recourse to language.
