On animal guidance in life, art and gardening

Theun Karelse, Jeroen Helmer

Theun Karelse (artist) in conversation with Jeroen Helmer (ARK Nature illustrator)

For Theun Karelse, drawing has been a way to get to know the world from an early age. He studied visual arts at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam and joined FoAM, an international network of transdisciplinary laboratories operating at the intersection of art, science, nature and everyday life. As an artist, he develops projects and research programs around people and landscapes. At Zone2Source, he has been working on Otterdam, a floating garden in the pond of the Amstelpark, since spring 2024.

ARK Nature illustrator Jeroen Helmer visualizes nature development processes, intended project results and the ecological role of important species. His artist impressions are invaluable for communicating ecological principles and project expectations and aspirations to local partners, the public and stakeholders.
