Exploratory meeting ZOÖP Amstelpark

Zone2Source has engaged in an exciting new development we would like to inform you about. We have invited Klaas Kuitenbrouwer of the Zoönomic Institute and the City of Amsterdam to collaborate on a series of exploratory meetings. Excitingly the municipality has taken up this challenge and together we are exploring in three meetings  whether  the Amstelpark can be governed as a place to experiment with alternative scenarios for a city of billions of lives instead of just 1 million people.

We propose to establish the Amstelpark as a Zoöp, an organisational model in which other-than-human lives have a voice in decision-making. A testing ground for the city in which we can collectively practice other systems of politics, legislation, design, maintenance, planning etc to learn to work towards a better society of all life in the city.

On Wednesday December 11, we met for the first time with various relevant community organisations, local experts and other stakeholders. In the coming months we will continue the explorations in a series of meetings. In May 2025, an advice will be issued after which the city council will decide whether the Amstelpark will be managed as a Zoöp in the future.
