Ingrid Vranken presents her graduation project at DAS Theater – Academy for Theater and Dance in the Glass House on Sunday, June 2, 2019, 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. In preparation, she will start working in the Glass House from mid-May.
Rooted Hauntology Lab / Séance #1 Rooted Hauntology Lab invites plants, artists, thinkers and the public to ‘be together’ to reflect on the fact that we share our planet. Rooted Hauntology Lab is committed to ‘thinking-with-the-trouble’, recognizing that human knowledge alone is not enough. Our photosynthetic colleagues include decorative exotic plants, carnivorous plants and common culinary herbs. Our practices go beyond gardening or exploitative aesthetic objectification but interrogate our politics of relations towards non-human and other human others.
Rooted Hauntology Lab operates in a spectral space. We investigate how (urban) Western people are haunted and the role that plants play in this. By thinking and working together we try to make the invisible visible.
Vinny Jones, Sepideh Ardelani, Špela Petrič and Bryana Fritz were Rooted Hauntology Lab’s first artists-in-residence. In Séance #1 we show their processes and temporary results to invited and passing audiences. Through playful interactions, audience members become co-creators of the séance in an effort to develop a more relational way of being in the world.
Ingrid Vranken studied Theater Studies at the University of Antwerp and Freie Universität Berlin. She has worked as a dramaturge, producer and curator for various artists and cultural organizations in Flanders. Ingrid is a member of FoAM, a transdisciplinary laboratory for speculative cultures. Her research focuses on new forms of collaboration and curatorial and dramaturgical models and a broader ecological and post-capitalist society inclusive of non-humans.
