May 29th – June 18th, 2021
On view through the windows and during a public day (6 June 14.00 – 17.00)
For three weeks, artist Jacqueline Heerema uses het Glazen Huis as a workspace for artistic research. In 2019 she already conducted research into Land in Wording, a living climate archive. During the Exploded View project she showed the work Breath of Soil (s) in the Glass House.
In the Glass House, Jacqueline works with soil samples and all kinds of material about the Land in Wording, and on the projects Soft Soils, Aardtijd and new research. She uses the work period to reflect, document and prepare for a follow-up project in 2022. At the end, Jacqueline also works together with Eline Kersten, an artist whose work was also shown during Exploded View. Together they work on a video as a reflection on the Exploded View project. The working period starts on May 29 with the Sensoilations Sessions, an online presentation by Tanya Lippmann, Jacqueline Heerema and Eline Kersten.
Jacqueline works at the intersection of art, paleontology, geology, archeology, ecology and climate. Together with climate scientists and activists, she uncovered a subsurface living climate archive of soil/Earth that has not been touched by sunlight for millennia. Matter that responds to her artistic intervention. As the guardian of the collected resources, she is confronted with questions about ethics, learning about ownership and care, attributing value or worthlessness. During this research period called toenadering [ˈtunadərɪŋ], Jacqueline invited dancer-choreographer Kenzo Kusuda, artist Eline Kersten and climate scientist Tanya Lippmann (VU) to further explore sensorial connections or sensoilations with subsurface soil/Earth that has not been touched by sunlight for millennia.
From 7th of June Eline Kersten will show her work Flora of the Colosseum (2020 – 2021) a 24 meter leporello, unique piece
