Smart Hybrid Forms: Addressing ecological challenges by blurring the lines between biology and technology

This exhibition shows the results of a 2-year artistic research programme called Smart Hybrid Forms.Physicist Raoul Frese from the Vrije Universiteit established an art science lab in which Špela Petrič and Christiaan Zwanikken have been working for 2 years to create new bio-art projects. The new projects explore whether a plant can be artificial intelligence and a computer program a plant.
The central question is: can we imagine new hybrid entities that help us develop adaptive strategies in the new ecology that is emerging as a result of climate change?
The research focuses on two of the most important topics of the moment: artificial intelligence and bioenergy. Both have the potential to change society. The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of lectures, discussions, workshops and demonstrations in which the artists, together with scientists and researchers, show the processes of their research, in addition to live interactions of the plant AI.
