On 22 April 2022 -International Earth Day – Zone2Source will open the Shadow Floriade in honour of 50 years of Amstelpark (Floriade 1972). During the Shadow Floriade, we will take the public into new imaginations and experiences of nature in exhibitions, outdoor works, expeditions and workshops at various locations in the park.

The 1972 Floriade took place the same year the Rome Report, Limits to Growth, was released. For the first time, it became widely known that there is an expiry date to the earth and global environmental awareness reared its head. At the 1972 Floriade, the largest international horticulture exhibition up to that time, there was very little evidence of this. We now want to change that.
During the Shadow Floriade, we are launching the Amstelpark as a testing ground for art and ecology. We ask the question: in times of ecological crisis, can a park be a place to train new relationships to nature?
Parallel to the Floriade in Almere, Zone2Source will address the shadow side of the park from a critical ecological perspective, with our view of the earth and underground knowledge. In the shadow side, we look for the intimate, vulnerable, and explore what it means to be human on a multi-species planet.
We will do this between April and October 2022 with the following activities:

Tentoonstellingen in en buiten het Glazen Huis (Perfect Nature: Amstelpark Test Park, welke lokale kennis is verloren gegaan met onze wetenschappelijke blik?) en Our Living Soil (waarin kunstenaars samenkomen die de humus laag van de aarde onderzoeken)
met Park Studio’s in de Orangerie waarbij twee maanden lang zal de School for MultiSpecies het park als laboratorium gebruiken om ons af te stemmen op ritmes en schalen van andere levensvormen en Elmo Vermijs samen met wetenschappers van de WUR in het najaar een publiek dendrologisch lab ontwikkelt om de bomen van het Amstelpark te onderzoeken als een 50 jaar oud archief van klimaatverandering
en met een SchaduwTuin die we samen met de Onkruidenier ontwikkelen in de Belgische kloostertuin waarin andere, relationele natuurcultuur verhalen tot nieuwe gezamenlijke praktijken van zorg leiden.

Geïnspireerd door het tijdelijke paviljoen, dat het kenmerk vormt van een wereld tentoonstelling, vragen we diverse kunstenaars installaties in het park te presenteren waarin mensen hun relatie tot de omgeving op allerlei manieren onderzoeken.
